Brilliant comeback, Hazard’s masterclass and Firmino’s nutmeg — here are the major events from Chelsea’s enthralling victory over Liverpool
Chelsea remain unbeaten after eight fixtures in all competitions, so far this season.
Before yesterday’s EFL clash, many pundits predicted that the Blues would see their unbeaten run come to an end when they tackle high-flying Liverpool, but the reverse was the case after 90 minutes of action at the Anfield Stadium.
The Blues extended their unbeaten record, thanks to Eden Hazard’s second-half goal, while Liverpool saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end.
Here are some best moments in the game :
Eden Hazard completes a brilliant comeback
Liverpool took the lead in the opening 45 minutes as rejuvenated Daniel Sturridge scored an acrobatic goal.
The Reds preserved their lead through to the second half of the game but the goal from Emerson Palmieri restored parity some minutes after the break.
Hazard’s free-kick was met by Barkley’s head but Simon Mignolet was equal to the task as he punched the ball out from scoring.
Unlucky for the Belgian goaltender, the ball fell to Palmieri who made no mistake in slotting home the loosed ball.
Hazard, who was introduced to the game in the 75th minute, scored the winning goal with a sublime solo goal. The Belgian dashed past host of Liverpool players before playing the ball past helpless Mignolet.
Firmino got nutmegged
In the build-up to Hazard’s goal, the Brazilian was seen trying to stop the Belgian from going towards goal.
Surprisingly, the Brazilian was a victim of Hazard’s masterclass display as he was nutmegged by the Belgian who eventually found his way and score the goal that ensures the Blues are through to the next round of the competition.
