United legend! How this Arsenal player brings out the best from his midfield partner

Arsenal manager Unai Emery often start Granit Xhaka alongside Matteo Guendouzi in the opening matches of the season but both players didn’t gel together as one performs brilliantly than the others.

Matteo Guendouzi, was awesome against Chelsea and Manchester City while Switzerland star Granit Xhaka wasn’t near any perfect.

However, after the two opening fixtures, Unai Emery would introduce summer signing Lucas Torreira – to partner Xhaka – in the second half of every match and the combination looks awesome.

After the Uruguayan’s fine performances coming from the bench, Emery finally gave the 22-year-old midfielder the opportunity to start against Everton yesterday, paring Granit Xhaka at the middle of the pitch.

The combination was awesome throughout the game as they seem to understand each other. Despite being under intense pressure from Everton’s strikers in the opening 45 minutes, the pair stood their ground and helped the team get their first clean sheet of the season.

Meanwhile, former United player Phil Neville has praised the two players for the understanding between them.

The England’s female national team coach told Sky Sports that Torreira brings out the best out of much-criticised Granit Xhaka.

“The thing with Torreira is, he actually makes Xhaka play well,” Neville told Sky Sports

Just like Neville, former Arsenal player Martin Keown admits Torreira has been the source of inspiration to Xhaka and both players covered each other’s back during their victory over the Merseyside club.
