Manchester United have joined in the race for Nicolas Pépé’s signature as Mourinho seek to add more urgency to his team in the coming transfer market.
The Lille winger was reportedly tracked by a host of clubs, including Sevilla, Lyon, Arsenal and Southampton, during the summer transfer window but none were able to lure him out of the Ligue 1 side.
According to Telefoot, a French media outlet, Manchester United could be signing the 23-year-old player in January as they are presently leading the race for his signature.
Once Mourinho completes a deal for his signature, how will the Portuguese line up with him to get the best from him.
Here is a clue on how he could be deployed by José Mourinho in the second half of this season:
Pépé – Lukaku – Sanchez ( as a right winger)
Lukaku remains at the centre-forward position and he would be flanked at the left by Alexis Sanchez, while, the Ivorian plays at the right side of attack.
Pépé is a fast winger and a good crosser of the ball, so, he might easily dislodge Jesse Lingard from Mourinho’s starting XI.
Lingard – Lukaku – Pépé ( as a left winger)
The £14m-rated winger is a left-footed player, therefore, he can operate at the left side of attack depending on Mourinho’s tactical approach.
Should Mourinho decide to deploy him at the left-wing position, Alexis Sanchez might see himself limited to a role from the substitute bench next season.
Lukaku – Pépé ( 4-4-2)
The Ivorian is equally brilliant while operating as a centre-forward, he could partner Romelu Lukaku at final half of the pitch.
