Aaron Ramsey is in the final year of his current contract with the Gunners and Unai Emery has told his employers to ensure they retain the Wales international beyond this season.
Despite showing interest to tie him down for another long spell, the club’s Sporting director Sven Mislintant is yet to get a breakthrough in his discussion with the Welshman.
Having failed to get a positive response from the player as regards to a new contract, Emery is set to make move for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera as the perfect replacement for Ramsey, who is being tracked by Serie A side AC Milan.
According to Sky Sports this morning, the 28-year-old midfielder is getting interest from the Spanish tactician due to his exploits for the Portuguese club during the previous football calendar.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery faces huge competition from Real Madrid manager Julien Lopetegui, who is keenly interested in making move for the impressive holding midfielder.
The former Spain national team coach looks like a great threat to Emery’s chances of getting the player, this is because he shares healthy relationships with Herrera during his time at Porto.
However, another British media outlet the Mirror are suggesting that Arsenal might pull out of the race for Herrera’s signature, should Ramsey accept their new contract offer before the end of this year.
