Manchester United and Liverpool are in the race to sign Rochdale’s youngster Luke Matheson after his impressive debut for the League one side.
The right-back was involved in the game against Bury on Tuesday and he was lively throughout the time he spent on the field of play.
The two Premier League giants are in search of quality youngsters with huge potentials so as to improve their youth setup this season and beyond.
In recent years, Liverpool have failed to give their academy products the chance to shine with the senior squad, however, Alexander-Alnord is the only academy product getting regular action with the Anfield Stadium outfits this season.
As for United, the Red Devils have witnessed a relatively huge number of players promoted to the first-team squad since Mourinho became their manager.
Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay have all tasted the first-team action under José Mourinho but that’s not good enough for a club of United’s calibre.
However, both clubs believe that Matheson’s acquisition would help bring more quality into their respective academies and they are set to do everything for his signature.
In other United News, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has failed in his mission to become France National team captain as Didier Deschamps decides to continue with Hugo Lloris as captain.
The Tottenham goalkeeper is out of action due to injury and won’t take part in the Les Blues clash with Germany later today.
