Maurizio Sarri has been told by the Blues hierarchy to reduce the number of midfielders in his team before the end of all transfer window by the end of this month.
As result of his employers order, the Italian boss is set to partway with former Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater this summer, that’s according to Starsport.
The England international joined the Blues from the Foxes last summer but has failed to get quality time on the field of play.
It was initially reported via Sky Sports that the midfielder could be heading back to the King Power outfits before the start of this season but the Foxes didn’t make any attention to re-capture his signature.
Drinkwater is up against Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, New signing Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley and youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the team’s midfield battle and it appears he is losing out to his teammates.
He was left out of the squad that defeated Huddersfield last weekend and that has fuelled speculations that he might be sold out to Schalke this summer.
The Bundesliga side have turned their attention to the player, who left Leicester City for £35m, as it looked like they have failed in their bid to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Though the 28-year-old played 30 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the community shield, he is not in Sarri’s plan for this season.
