This might be the most shocking report of the week as Daily Mirror suggest that former Manchester United goaltender Edwin van Der Sar is ready to return to Old Trafford this month.
Manchester United board members were unhappy with their involvement in the recently concluded transfer window, therefore, they are set to hire a new sporting director, who will be in charge of selling and signing of players in the foreseeable future.
According to the British media, the Red Devils have listed some experienced candidates for the post but the most striking name is the former goalkeeper Van Der Sar, who is seen as the most successful goalkeeper in the club’s history.
Van Der Sar might not have a longtime experience as a football director, he has done a great job with Eredivisie club Ajax over the years.
Should he beat other contenders to the position, It will surely be a homecoming to the Dutchman who spent six years with the Red Devils from 2005 to 2011.
Other named shortlisted for the job include Monchi, who is presently in charge of Roma’s sporting activities and Fabio Paratici, who also spends his time controlling Juventus’ transfer business.
Both sporting directors have been long-term directors and it will be very difficult to convince either Roma or Juventus to let go of their respective sporting directors.
