Manchester United manager José Mourinho has reportedly joined the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng and he is in talks with the Bavarians for his signature.
The Portuguese manager — who is sad with the way his employers are handling his quest for new players this window — is optimistic he will get a new player before the close of the transfer window in three days time and that could be Munich’s want-away defender Boateng
Boateng is in the final year of his contract and the Bundesliga giants are unwilling to extend his stay at the club, therefore, they want to trigger his move to another club this summer, so as not to lose him as a free agent.
German media SPORTS Bild claimed that the former Manchester City player will cost the Red Devils nothing less than £44m, which is not too expensive for a player of his calibre and quality.
The German centre-back is an experienced defender who has won numerous trophies, including 7 Bundesliga titles, a world cup trophy, Champions League and DFB German cup.
When asked if he is interested in Boateng’s signature during his post-match conference after his team lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich, Mourinho didn’t rule out the possibility of bringing him back to England this summer.
However, Mourinho faces huge competition from Arsenal, who are more than ready to spend big on the player’s signature.
The Gunners manager Unai Emery has revealed that he is hoping he wraps up his involvement in the transfer window by signing the star player, who has played over 250 games for Bayern Munich.
