Manchester United have received a huge blow in their pursuit to sign Lazio and Serbia midfielder Sergej Milinko-Savic as Arsenal shows the desire to join the race for his signature in the summer.
The Gunners, who are still in search of new and goalscoring midfielders, have reportedly developed an interest to work with the former KRC Genk player when the 2018-19 season begins in August.
According to Italian reporter Giulio Cardone, the Gunners are ready to beat their rivals Manchester United to Milinko-Savic’s signature, as part of Unai Emery’s desire to provide a title-winning team ahead of next season.
Milinko-Savic, 23, has improved tremendously since his switch to the Serie A side from Genk in 2015. Having played 48 matches for Lazio during the recently concluded season, the Serbian international was able to find the back of the net in 14 occasions, providing nine assists in all competitions.
Unai Emery’s decision to move for the midfielder would surely be a disappointing one for José Mourinho, who is desperately in search of a perfect replacement for Michael Carrick.
However, the Portuguese manager is not pulling out of the race but would advise his employers to improve their pace with which they negotiate with Lazio’s representatives over the possibility of capturing the midfielder.
