Tottenham are reportedly in talks with Manchester United over the possibility of selling their impressive but less-effective defender in the summer.
Despite the huge rivalry between both clubs, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochetino is willing to listen to offer from José Mourinho for the player’s signature.
According to Michael Bridge, who is a Sky Sports reporter, the North London club are set to cash-in on the Belgian defender in the summer and they have named the price they would love to receive from the Red Devils.
According to Bridge, Alderweireld is set to cost nothing below the region of £75m but it is unknown if Mourinho would like to release such huge amount for his services.
Alderweireld was a regular starter in Pochetino’s team in the early part of last season but picked up an injury which ultimately ruled him out of the Argentine’s starting lineup for the rest of the season.
Though he returned to full fitness before the end of the season, Davidson Sanchez’s performance was too solid for the club and Pochetino couldn’t risk dropping the young defender on the substitute bench.
The Belgian still has a contract that runs till the end of next season but the club’s hierarchy are willing to part way with him this summer, so as to avoid losing him for as low as £25m due to the release-clause in his contract.
“We can look now and say that there are early talks between Tottenham and Manchester United. Manchester United at the moment are the only club to make a serious interest in Alderweireld.
“It looks like Manchester United are going to do their business early. I’m told Spurs will be looking for quite a big fee for Alderweireld, maybe around £75m.” Michael Bridge disclose.
The express also gives the full comments of what Michael said about the player’s future in their Tuesday’s edition.
