Chelsea have for several months now been in the market for a left-back (or left wing back due to the system they play).
According to latest reports, the Premier League champions have launched an inquiry into the possibility of signing AS Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri.
The club have for long targeted Juventus left-back Alex Sandro – as he was viewed as perfect for their system – but a deal has not been reached and reports say the Blues have dropped their interest in the Brazil international.
The West London club has been linked with a number of players for this position in recent weeks with Emerson being the most recent.
The Brazilian only just returned from a serious knee injury which has limited him to just 1 Serie A appearance this season he, however, made 25 league appearances last season for the Capital club.
Liverpool, as well as Italian champions Juventus, have been long-term admirers of the 23-year old having been linked with moves for months now.
Chelsea currently have Marcos Alonso as the only recognised left-back at the club and although he has delivered some brilliant displays this season the club are keen to bring in a back up in that position.
It is unclear at this time if the Rome-based club are open to a deal.
