Chelsea manager Antonio Conte might have all but surrendered the title as his side is well behind leaders Manchester City on the table but their improved defensive displays in recent weeks has pleased him.
The Italian manager who managed the club to their second Premier League title in 3 years in his first season in charge believes Chelsea improved performances in defense is a major improvement from last season.
“I am very pleased with the performance of all my players and very pleased to finish another game with a clean sheet,” Conte said. “We are showing good solidity. If you compare with last season, we have conceded less goals. We have scored less, but conceded less.”
The Blues’ newfound defensive displays have contributed to their rise on the table as they on Saturday moved above Manchester United into second place.
Chelsea has kept clean sheets in their last 4 Premier League games and 10 in total since the beginning of the league season which further explains the manager’s excitement.
The manager went on to defend striker Alvaro Morata who wasn’t at his best during their game against Stoke city but rather expressed his delight that opportunities are falling the way of the centre-forward.
Chelsea face rivals Arsenal in a London derby on January 3 as they look to continue their good defensive run.
