Chelsea have been reported to be targeting a move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey but now their hopes of signing the youngster have been dented as the German side insists the player is not for sale.
The director of Bayer Leverkusen Jonas Boldt has come out to say that reports of Chelsea being close to signing the winger is absolutely false and that there is no truth to the ‘insane’ amount of transfer speculation surrounding the player.
The 20-year old Jamaican has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester United in the past even before joining Leverkusen from Belgium side Genk earlier this year.
He has been mightily impressive this season for the club in the Bundesliga, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists. His brilliant performances are what have seen his name continuously linked with a move away with Chelsea the club mentioned.
Bayer Leverkusen have however squashed those rumours entirely, with Boldt stating that the club are not interested in listening to offers for their young star and insisted that the club are very much in control in terms of negotiations.
“Well now the time starts again when there is some insane (transfer) talk,” he said in an interview. “There is no offer for Leon. We have absolutely no thought of selling him. He has a contract until 2022 – and we are in the driver’s seat.”
