Manchester United have faced the disappointment of stalemates in their last two matches against Leicester City and Burnley which followed a knockout defeat at the hands of Championship side Bristol City in Carabao Cup.

More gruelling for Man United boss Jose Mourinho will be the ever-increasing injury list at the club as Anthony Martial joined the likes of Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick on the treatment table.

The exciting Frenchman missed Boxing day’s draw with Burnley at Old Trafford after picking up what is believed to be a knock against Leicester.

Mourinho will be hoping the 21-year old will be fit enough to take part in their next fixture which sees the Red Devils host Southampton on Saturday.

Unlike Martial, the others on the list have no chance of playing and are all looking towards the new year to return to fitness.

Man United are currently 12 points behind leaders Manchester City – who are yet to play as at the time of writing this article – and are believed to be out of the title race.

Jose Mourinho has been reported to be targeting 2 signings in the winter transfer window as he looks to bolster his team as they look to put as much pressure on the leaders as possible. One area he is targeting is the central midfield positions as he seeks to add more power and creativity to that area of his team.
