Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been advised by club legend Ray Wilkins to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
Wilkins has issued a warning that the club are in need of striking reinforcements in the coming transfer window as he believes the club cannot rely only on Alvaro Morata and also sighting that Michy Batshuayi is not the quality needed in the backup position.
The former Chelsea caretaker and assistant manager further went on to question the decision to let go of Diego Costa.
“I honestly do believe (Conte wants signings),”Wilkins said while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live. “I can’t understand what happened with Costa. We should have Costa and Morata at Chelsea. Going on all fronts, we need those two top strikers. Chelsea need another center-forward.”
Conte has on occasion deployed Eden Hazard in the center forward position in Morata’s absence as he doesn’t trust Batshuayi enough and has required the striker to do more to earn a place in the starting XI.
Chelsea signed 6 players in the summer transfer window and are expected to add to their squad in the winter as Conte is not satisfied with the squad at his disposal. Some stars are expected to leave also in the winter either on a permanent or temporary basis, as is the case with David Luiz and Michy Batsuayi.
