Manchester United fullback Matteo Darmian could be on his way out of the club next month if reports are to be believed.
The Italian defender joined United from Torino in 2015 and was a mainstay in Louis Van Gaal’s team at the time making 39 appearances in all competitions that season.
His chances since Jose Mourinho took the reins, however, has drastically diminished. In the Portuguese manager’s first season in charge, he appeared in less than half of his side’s Premier League games. His game time hasn’t improved this season either, instead Darmian has made only 2 starts in the league and a further 2 in the Champions League.
Man United are set to offload the fullback in January with Serie A leaders Napoli said to have shown interest. United are looking to get 17 million pounds for the Italian international with Juventus also keen on striking a deal.
Interest from the Italian champions is good news for the Old Trafford club as they could use that to boost their chances ahead of a move for Juventus defender Alex Sandro, who is also being courted by Chelsea.
Darmian’s time with Manchester United hasn’t been the best of times for the Italian and a move back home will certainly be a welcomed development for him.
