Manchester United are long term admirers of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl. The Old Trafford club is hoping the German club’s interest in Henrikh Mkhitaryan will help their chances of signing Julian Weigl.
Dortmund are interested in bringing Mkhitaryan back to the Westfalenstadion less than 2 years after he left for Old Trafford.
The Armenian international has struggled to prove himself since he arrived at Man United and despite playing a major part in the club’s successful Europa League campaign last season has fallen down the pecking order thanks to a series of poor performances.
A January move away is a very much on the cards at the moment with Man United demanding a ₤35 million transfer fee. The player on his part his now ready to quit the club according to reports, with Italian giants Inter Milan also registering their interest.
However, Borussia Dortmund are believed to be in an advantaged position as regards a deal with United to get their former star back.
The Red Devils are hopeful a deal with Dortmund will help facilitate their move for Weigl, 22, who is seen as a potential long-term replacement for skipper Michael Carrick. The deep-lying playmaker is a consistent performer for Borussia Dortmund and he is also a Germany international.
