Jose Mourinho has stated that attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan could play a part in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Bristol City after his exile form the recent Manchester United squads.
Mkhitaryan has made only one appearance for the club since he was taken off at Stamford Bridge on November 5. However, with the manager looking to rotate his squad for the cup tie, Mkhitaryan might just get the opportunity to impress.
“We need to take the game really seriously but I’m going to make a few changes and it’s possible Miki is involved,” Mourinho said ahead of the tie. “I’m making a few changes for the match, because Bristol City are one of the best teams in the Championship.”
In other team news, Paul Pogba is due to start at Ashton Gate after serving his three-game ban in a timely boost for United as the fixtures come thick and fast. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in line for his first start since returning from injury in November, having not taken part in the last two Premier League games. Luke Shaw is another who could be handed a start after a couple of eye-catching displays in recent games.
Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Eric Bailly and Michael Carrick are all ruled out through injuries.
Manchester United are looking to defend the title they won earlier this year, and will be taking the tie very seriously and with Arsenal and Manchester City booking their place in the last four on Tuesday night so too are the other big guns.
