Ghanaian Richmond Boakye is a player reportedly targeted by Chelsea and the striker has admitted he would like to play for the club.
The player who plays for Red Star Belgrade in the Serbian Superliga has scored 23 goals from 28 games in the first part of the season. He has admitted that he would be willing to join the Stamford Bridge club which would present a reunion with manager Antonio Conte.
The Ghanaian international’s impressive form this season has seen him become the subject of various inquiries by top European clubs. His form has helped Red Star Belgrade race to a 9-point lead at the top of the Superliga table and also his side qualified for the knockout stage of the Europa League which is most impressive considering they
took part in the first qualifying round becoming the first club to achieve the feat.
The club are now reportedly considering bids from across Europe for their star striker but it appears Chelsea are in an advantaged position as he is an admirer of Conte having been together at Juventus.
“Conte wanted me and bought me to Juventus from Sassuolo,” Boakye said. “For me he represented a great coach and I’ll always thank him. I remember when I was loaned to Elche because there was no room for me, he called me to remind me that I had all the qualities. For a 19-year old boy, it was very satisfying. If he wants me, I’m so happy to find him again.”
Chelsea are in the market for a backup striker to Alvaro Morata with Conte seemingly unimpressed by Michy Batshuayi. It is still too early to tell if the club will make a move for Boakye.
