Chelsea are planning to hold talks with defender Andreas Christensen over a new long-term contract with the club as he continues to impress in the absence of David Luiz.
The Dane is currently on a ₤35,000 per week deal that expires in 2020, but his brilliant performances in recent weeks has seen the club chiefs convinced that a new deal should be offered to the player in the coming weeks.
The 21-year old has been putting in consistently good performances since Luiz’s falling out with manager Antonio Conte or injury as the Chelsea manager has continuous stated and has started 16 games in all competitions so far this season.
Christensen is a glowing example of Chelsea’s much criticized loan system which saw him return to the club after spending two seasons at German side Borussia Monchengladbach. He has gone on to prove himself as a quality ball-playing center half deserving of first team action.
The reports say that Chelsea will like to tie him down to a new deal before he departs for the World cup in Russia with the Danish National team.
The talk of a new deal for Christensen seems imperative now, seeing how the club has fared in trying to convince Belgian duo, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, to pen new contracts amidst reported interest from Real Madrid.
Christensen has fitted in seamlessly at the back in the absence of Luiz, who is reportedly on his way out of the club, and appears to be set to have a long career at Stamford Bridge.
