Chelsea, according to reports from a pundit in Italy are preparing a bid for in demand Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Matteo Materazzi, a pundit in Italy relayed the news via Instagram. Although a formal bid has not been made, Materazzi informs that the London club are preparing a bid of 80 million euros (70.8 million pounds) for the Serbian international.
Milinkovic-Savic who has drawn interest from Europe’s elite including Chelsea’s fellow Premier League side Manchester United, has been a consistent performer for the Italian capital club since signing from Genk in 2015.
The 22-year old is in good form this season having scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 20 games so far this season. He is a combative midfield player and a towering presence at over 6 ft 3″ tall. Although predominantly a central midfield player, he is involved in a lot of his side’s attacking play as his stats show.
Midfield is a position that is seemingly unsettled at Chelsea with current options at the club currently underperforming.
Milinkovic-Savic is represented by ex-Blues forward Matej Kezman, who has said that the player had been the subject of several bids worth over 50 million euros in the summer and with his current form and age, his price is sure to go up.
Although links to Chelsea for the player is so far unsubstantiated, a move for the player from those at Stamford Bridge seems logical.
