Premier League defending Champions Chelsea returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 victory away at lowly Huddersfield Town to draw level on points with second-placed Manchester United, who play on Wednesday night.
After their shock loss to West Ham over the weekend, the Blues were under pressure to get all 3 points and were without striker Alvaro Morata for the match. Tiemoue Bakayoko, Willian and Pedro were all on target in the routine win, as Conte returned to the 3-4-3 formation that was so effective last season.
Imperative to the win were players who have found it difficult in recent weeks to get into the starting lineup of their manager, even though star man Eden Hazard received the Man of the Match award.
Willian who was involved in all 3 goals, has not been as involved as he would like this season but put up a very impressive display which so him grab 2 assists and a goal (his first ever headed-goal in the league).
Tiemoue Bakayoko, who was also on the score sheet has come under mass criticism for his poor performances of late, came up with a great display all night. He has obviously needed time to settle into English football and will be hoping this performance can be the catalyst needed for better displays for the rest of the season.
Pedro is another who hasn’t really gotten going this season due to injuries, but netted a stunning strike to stake a claim to a starting spot.
Ahead of the busy festive period that requires shuffling of the pack, Chelsea’s fringe players have shown they still have what it takes to bring success to the club this season.
