Manchester United has announced that highly-rated youngster Angel Gomes has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year old is a product of the club’s Academy system and has been at the club since he was 6 years old. He made his first team debut for Manchester United on the last day of last season in a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, coming in as a substitute to replace Wayne Rooney. He was also a part of the English U-17 team that won the FIFA under 17 world championships in India this year.
Gomes expressed his delight in signing his first contract,
“Manchester United has always been a big part of my life. I have been with the club since the age of six and it was a proud moment for me when I made my first team debut.This club is renowned for giving home grown players opportunities to progress into the first team and that was a major factor in me signing my first professional contract at this great club.”
Jose Mourinho and Youth team coach Nicky Butt have both also aired the delight in seeing the youngster commit to Manchester United.
Angel Gomes became the youngest Man united player to play in the premier league as well as the youngest to represent the club since Duncan Edwards in 1953. He also became the first player born in the 21st century to play in the league
