Thibaut Courtois, the Chelsea goalkeeper, has long been a target of Real Madrid, an interest that started during his days at Atletico Madrid.
The Belgium International has 18 months left on his current deal, and with no agreement being reached by both club and player concerning a new deal, has thrown the door wide open for the Los Blancos who are prepared to make a summer bid for the 25-year-old shot-stopper.
The Blues have been made aware of the interest held by Real Madrid for the Belgian but are believed to be prepared to reject any offer and rather wait till his current deal runs out at which point the player would be allowed to leave for free.
Arsenal are in a similar situation with two of their star players, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who both have six months left on their current deals and will both be free to have pre- contract negotiations with other clubs in preparation for summer moves away from the club. This again goes to show the power held by players over clubs in contract agreements.
Courtois has been in good form for The Blues so far this season recording 9 clean sheets in 21 appearances across all competitions. It is not known if he harbours any ambition of playing for Real Madrid at the moment, but he will go on being the man between the sticks for his team for the rest of the season and as it stands the duration of his current contract barring an unlikely downturn in form or a serious injury.
