Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars for ten years after he hit Rock with a slap during this year's ceremony.

The Academy has banned Smith from attending the Oscars or any other related events for a decade following his slap of Comedian Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27.

"I accept and respect the Academy's decision," Will Smith said


"The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage," the Academy said in a statement.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has accepted actor Will Smith's resignation.

President David Rubin said, "We will continue to move forward with our disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct in our next scheduled board meeting on April 18.”

He continued. "There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness".

"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much to bear, and I reacted emotionally."

"I have directly responded to the Academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any consequences for my conduct. My actions at the 94th Academy Award presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable,” wrote Smith in a statement provided by his publicist.
