However, the number of receipts is in the hundreds, and all of them will receive this amount through this program. The project manager for the program revealed to Washington Times that they process money on the 20th of every month.
Moreover, the amount that the people will receive on June 20 is part of the Minneapolis Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot program. This program began in June 2022, and it is expected to provide monthly cash payments to the recipients in June 2024 as well.
So it’s a positive sign for the people of Minneapolis.
Eligibility criteria
To qualify for our program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2022.
- Reside in one of the specified ZIP codes in Minneapolis.
- Have an income that falls below the city’s median.
- Have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and lost a job.
- Have higher health expenses and be unable to pay for child care.
In addition, the project manager revealed that the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis evaluates this program.
The city website revealed that there is no restriction on spending this money. The recipients can spend it however they want. It also revealed that two hundred householders would receive this amount.
The householders are 80.5 % black, indigenous, or people of color, and 19.5% white or non-Hispanic. Moreover, among the recipients, 19.5% are women, and 42.5% are between 30 and 39.
