Shakira could go to jail if proven guilty of the Spanish Tax Fraud case

The Spanish prosecutor demands that Shakira be sentenced to 8 years in jail.

They want her behind bars over allegedly being involved in a tax fraud case in Spain.

As reported by Reuters, the Spanish prosecutors claim that she is involved in a $15 million tax fraud case.

However, it is not yet decided whether she is guilty of not paying the taxes or not, but the Spanish prosecutors claim that she has not paid the taxes while living in Spain from 2012 to 2014.

She wants to go to trial to prove herself innocent. But the trails date is not fixed yet.

The Waka Waka singer is accused of not paying taxes from 2012 to 2014 as she has lived there for more than six months, per the Spanish prosecutors’ statement.

Furthermore, she is bound to pay the taxes as it is a law in Spain that if someone lives there for more than six months, then he or she is bound to pay the taxes because the person is considered a citizen of Spain.

But Shakira claims that she has not lived for more than six months in that particular time in Spain, although according to the documents, she bought a house in Barcelona in 2012.

But she wants to go to trial after rejecting a settlement offer from the Spanish prosecutors’ office to close the case.

Moreover, a representative of the Colombian singer said to PEOPLE that she is confident enough to prove herself “innocent.”

In addition, the representative further said that the Spanish tax office is violating Shakira’s rights and is pursuing another baseless case.” By the end of the judicial process, she will be proved innocent,” the representative added.
