WhatsApp has introduced end-to-end encryption for chats backups on iCloud. This means that even if you back up your messages and media to Apple’s cloud servers. They will be protected by End-to-End encryption so users can rest assured their private conversations are safe no matter where they go or who gets hold of them.

WhatsApp messages stored in iCloud are still not protected by end-to-end encryption. WhatsApp is aiming to introduce a new feature that will allow users the option of password protection for their chats before uploading it onto Apple’s cloud platform.

This way, you can ensure that no one but yourself has access and thus avoid any verifiable information being compromised in case it gets hacked or otherwise accessed by an outsider!

Encrypted chat backups are set to become available soon and will be rolling out several weeks from now. The encryption key will make all of your backups secure in remote iCloud servers by ensuring they cannot be read without a password.

The 64-bit encryption key or password will be optional and saved in the user’s account so they can recover their data if needed.

The encrypted chat backups feature is coming to Android (for WhatsApp users backing up their chats) and iOS in the next few weeks.
