According to The Athletic‘s Simon Hughes and Caoimhe O’Neill, RB Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecano is the top target for Liverpool as they search for a centre-back ahead of the January winter transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit ae currently in a difficult situation as they have lost both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, to injuries and need to have them replaced as soon as the winter transfer window is opened.
The target of the Reds team is to defend the English Premier League title successfully and that is already being threatened as they only have Joel Matip as the fit senior central defender in the team. Manager Jurgen Klopp is left with no other choice than to rely on other youngsters like Rhys Williams, Nat Phillips and Billy Koumetio.

According to The Athletic‘s Simon Hughes and Caoimhe O’Neill, the RB Leipzig defender is the major target by the Reds team ad they will make an attempt to snap him up this January.
Dayot Upamecano has been very impressive with his 123 appearances for the club and that has earned him three caps for France at age 22. His suitors have also learned that he has a £40 million release clause which kicks at the end of the season.
Dayot Upamecano is identified by manager Jurgen Klopp as a perfect signing as a result of his age, experience and potential. He also plays a left-sided centre-back despite being predominantly right-footed making him an ideal stand-in, and possible long-term successor, for Virgil Van Dijk.
Other players like Schalke’s Ozan Kabak and Torino’s Gelson have been linked with a move to Liverpool but they seem not to top the chart on Jurgen Klopp.
Man United are also interested in the signature of the Red Bull Leipzig central defender but they seem to have lost him to other clubs that have shown big interest.
