Man United are not having the best of results at the moment as they suffered another defeat in the Champions League against Turkish outfit Istanbul on Wednesday evening after the 1-0 loss against Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.

Speaking in his analysis of the team, former Man United and Arsenal player Robin van Persie stated that Fred is a major concern for the Man United team and can be held responsible for the failure of their formations and tactics.

While admitting that manger Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been switching between several formations this season, the former player stated that Fred has not been sticking to his positions on the pitch.

The Brazilian has been favoured with starting b roles in Man United’s last four games and was asked to play as a deep-lying midfielder in three of those games where he created problems for the defence because he failed to protect the back four.

Van Persie told BT Sport before United’s game against Istanbul Basaksehir that Man United defender Harry Maguire has been fantastic on the ball going forward with his passing but he has had problems with Fred who comes to take the ball from him.

“You see Fred coming to take the ball from centre-back, he should not do that. Maguire should do that. He can do that forward pass. He should play higher up the pitch, where it is more difficult, but it gives everyone more options” he added.

He also blamed attacking players for not playing as high as possible, lamenting that they drop too much to get the ball. Van Persie, therefore, blamed all of this on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for always changing the positions of the players.

Howbeit, Man United boss has defended the players in most situations and has been criticized for protecting the players than necessary.
