Italian Serie A club Napoli are hoping to capitalise on the Gunners’ desire to reduce their hefty wage bill by offloading fringe players like key target Sokratis Papasthathopoulos.
Arsenal defender Sokratis is surplus to requirements under the current managerial regime of Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners are struggling to keep their wage bill under check with the club presently operating a Champions League wage bill with a Europa League budget. They have missed out on Champions League football in the last three seasons.

For Sokratis, Napoli want to sign the 32-year-old for free via Sky Italy despite the fact that he still has one year to run on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal want to collect a transfer fee for the Greek centre back with reports claiming that as little as €4m will suffice for the North Londoners.
Sokratis Papasthathopoulos is seen by Napoli as the man to replace Kalidou Koulibaly if the Senegalese player leaves the club for the Premier League.
Both Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in Koulibaly though the former seems to be in pole position.
Napoli were interested in signing Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes before they were beaten to his signature by Arsenal.
