Lille centre back Gabriel could be the man to offer new Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta some form of defensive solidity in his team with the Spaniard keen to add at least one central defender to his team ahead of the January transfer window.
Arsenal splashed the cash on Ivorian international attacker Nicholas Pepe and the Gunners are ready to go back to where they signed him from for Gabriel.
This is according to the report from the stables of The Athletic which revealed that Mikel Arteta could make Gabriel his first signing as the new Arsenal manager if the Gunners are able to reach an agreement with his French Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

Pepe was signed from Lille for £72m and former teammates Gabriel could join him at Arsenal though it must be pointed out that his transfer fee would be a bargain since he has 18 months left on his Lille contract at the moment.
Arsenal are still in doubt over a move for Gabriel mainly because of his potential participation at the pre-2020 Olympic Games qualifying tournament for the Brazilian team at the end of last month.
Gabriel has 23 appearances for Lille this campaign with his six Champions League matches included.
