Premier League leaders Liverpool are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time in three seasons after beating MK Dons away from home in a third round meeting played on Wednesday night.

Liverpool had crashed out at the third round stage in each of the last two seasons.

The Premier League leaders didn’t make it a hattrick of crashing out of the third round following their 2-0 win over hosts MK Dons.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made wholesale changes for the game against the English League One club and it didn’t have much effect as the Reds strolled to a comfortable victory.

Liverpool skipper for the night, James Milner and young defender Ki Jana Hoever scored the goals for the visitors either side of the halftime interval.

The Reds will now host Arsenal in the fourth round of the competition after the draw was held on Wednesday night.

The Carabao Cup fourth round draw took place almost immediately after the conclusion of the third round ties on Wednesday night.

Fourth round opponents Arsenal will travel to Merseyside to face Liverpool in the last week of October.

Arsenal qualified for the fourth round by beating English Championship side Nottingham Forest 5-0 at home in their third round clash on Tuesday.
