Merseyside giants Liverpool have opened a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table after their win over Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime.

Liverpool came from a goal down to beat the Magpies 3-1 at home thereby opening a five-point lead over nearest challengers and defending champions Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Newcastle United took a shock lead through left-back Jetro Williams inside the first ten minutes of the game before Sadio Mane equalised for his team off an assist from Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

Mane added another goal before the halftime interval to give Liverpool the lead for the first time in the game.

His brace took his Premier League tally to four goals this season.

Liverpool wrapped up the game in the second half through a third goal scored by star player Mohamed Salah.

The Reds beat Newcastle United 3-1 at home to maintain their perfect start to the new Premier League season.

They had earlier won games against the likes of Norwich City, Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley.

Liverpool have the maximum 15 points from five games this season and are five points ahead of title rivals Manchester City who have 10 points from four games ahead of their match at newly promoted side Norwich City later on Saturday.
