New Barcelona signing Antoine Griezmann will have to make do with the number 17 jersey at the club despite the fact that his favored number 7 jersey is available.

The number 7 jersey is available having been vacated by Philippe Coutinho who has left the club to join German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Coutinho joined the Bavarian giants for a loan fee of €8.5m and the Germans have the option to make it a permanent move for €120m when his loan transfer expires.

According to the Daily Mail, a player can’t wear two numbers during the course of the Spanish La Liga season.

Antoine Griezmann made his debut for Spanish champions Barcelona during the La  Liga opener and he wore the jersey number 17.

The 28-year-old couldn’t do anything about the 1-0 away loss to Athletic Bilbao.

Veteran striker Aritz Aduriz scored the only goal of the game after coming off the bench.

Antoine Griezmann is a Barcelona player on the back of his transfer from fellow Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

The French World Cup winner had an underwhelming performance for his new club and he has been sounded out by Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde as he was told that he needs to improve to keep his place in three starting XI.
