Frank Lampard and Chelsea lost their first league game of the season to Manchester United.
Chelsea were beaten 4-0 at the home of Manchester United courtesy goals from the likes of Marcus Rashford (a brace), Anthony Martial and substitute Daniel James who scored on his debut following his summer transfer from English Championship club Swansea City.
Chelsea then went on to lose the UEFA Super Cup to Liverpool via penalties.
The Reds beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties after the two teams played out a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time and extra time.
Chelsea lost 1-0 to Leicester City in the corresponding fixture last season.
