The trio of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are the early pacesetters after the end of week 1 in the new Premier League season.

20 Premier League teams have tried to make a positive statement over the last three days, from Friday to Sunday.

Premier League champions Manchester City have won the league title in the last two seasons and they made the biggest statement after week 1 on the back of their comprehensive win at the home of West Ham United.

The Hammers were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City who ended week 1 at the top of the table.

England international Raheem Sterling was the star of the show after he scored three goals in addition to goals from strikers Gabriel Jesus and substitute Sergio Aguero (penalty).

Manchester United are in second place behind leaders and city rivals Manchester United after their 4-0 demolition of Chelsea at home courtesy goals from Marcus Rashford (2), Anthony Martial and substitute Daniel James.

Liverpool occupy the third position at the end of the first set of games after their 4-1 win over newly promoted side Norwich City at home.

Grant Hanley (own goal), Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Divock Origi got all the goals for Liverpool in the first half before Teemu Pukki pulled one back for the visitors.
