Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has had his say on the surprising exit of David Luiz who left the club to join London rivals Arsenal on Thursday.
Frank Lampard was asked about David Luiz during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Blues’ Premier League opener at the weekend.
Lampard and Chelsea traveled to Old Trafford to take on top four rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
According to him, he had a conversation with David Luiz before they arrived at the decision for him to leave the club this summer.
Frank Lampard also said that he has a lot of competition in his area and he could not guarantee David Luiz a starting spot in his team.
Since the former midfielder returned to his former hunting ground in a managerial capacity, David Luiz has been relegated to fourth choice and that led to his exit ultimately.
Arsenal paid £8m to secure his transfer from Chelsea.
David Luiz was handed a two-year deal at Arsenal until the end of the 2020/21 season.
The Brazilian international is the sixth summer signing at Arsenal after the quintet of Gabriel Martinelli, young French defender William Saliba, Nicolas Pepe, Dani Ceballos and Scottish international left-back Kieran Tierney.
