Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is set to open talks over a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) club D.C. United and he would have to agree to an unlikely deal for the transfer to take place.
The MLS giants are targeting Ozil as a direct replacement for English football legend Wayne Rooney who will leave the club in January 2020.
Rooney has agreed on a deal to join Championship club Derby County on January 2020.
He has agreed to a player-coach role for 18 months as from the first month of January and Mesut Ozil is being lined up to replace him at D.C. United.
According to The Athletic, the proposed switch involving Mesut Ozil and D.C. United will go through if the Arsenal player agrees to open a coffee shop in the United States (US).
Ozil owns a company known as 39 Steps Coffee with three branches in London and the player is said to be keen to open another branch in the US, preferably DC United’s Audi Field.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil still has two years left on his current deal at the club.
His contract at Arsenal is worth £350,000 on a weekly basis and it remains to be seen whether the MLS move would materialize for him.
