Three-time European champions Manchester United are on the verge of signing Leicester City defender Harry Maguire according to the Independent.
It was revealed that Manchester United have agreed on an £80m transfer for the player.
The said transfer fee includes £10m in add-ons and it is enough to make him the most expensive defender in the history of world football ahead of Liverpool centre back Virgil Van Dijk.
The Dutch international star left Southampton to join Liverpool in a £75m deal during the winter transfer window last year.
The money has been well spent after Virgil Van Dijk played a key role for Liverpool during the last campaign.
In the penultimate season, Van Dijk played a key role for the Reds as they reached the Champions League final before they were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid.
Van Dijk and Liverpool went one better by beating fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in their Champions League final clash last season.
Harry Maguire would be hoping for a similar impact when he completes his move to Manchester United.
The 26-year-old has been at Leicester City for two years since his £17m move from Hull City shortly after the suffered relegation from the top flight of English football.
