Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has set his sights on the captain’s armband at the club after agreeing on a contract extension to stay with the Red Devils for a long time.
In his recent interview monitored by the Independent, David De Gea stated that it would be an honour to lead the team.
He also pointed out that he enjoyed the experience of leading the team on some occasions to date.
His captain armband admission is coming on the back of his contract extension agreement with Manchester United.
According to recent reports, David De Gea has agreed on a six-year deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.
His new contract is worth £375,000 on a weekly basis this making him the second highest paid player at Manchester United behind Alexis Sanchez.
Chilean international Alexis Sanchez is the highest earner at Manchester United following his move in January 2018.
David De Gea has one year left on his current deal at Manchester United after the club activated the extra year in his contract.
His new contract agreement will take the Spanish international shot stopper to the summer of 2024.
He was linked with several clubs like Juventus and Real Madrid before his agreement with senior Manchester United officials.
