Manchester United and Liverpool are the top two most successful teams in English football and both teams share a huge rivalry dating back decades.

Irrespective of the rivalry mentioned above, Manchester United fans will have to thank an adversary if they manage to pull off a transfer for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

Ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez would have played a major role in that transfer.

Benitez has been the Newcastle United manager since 2016 until he walked out of the club at the end of last month after the Magpies failed to back him on transfers.

The Spanish tactician has a big influence on Sean Longstaff, a top midfield target for Manchester United.

Longstaff had debunked the Manchester United transfer rumours while Rafael Benitez was the Newcastle United manager but his position has changed after the Spaniard left the club to take up a £12m per annum managerial job at Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang.

Sean Longstaff is said to be open to a possible exit with the new development concerning Rafael Benitez who gave him a big break at the club last season.

£25m would be enough to secure his transfer from Newcastle United to Manchester United.
