Three-time European champions Manchester United have turned their attention to Leicester City defender Harry Maguire after being turned down by Ajax Amsterdam skipper Matthijs De Ligt in their quest to sign a new quality centre back this summer.

However, they have been offered a ray of hope in their bid to sign De Ligt according to experienced European football expert Julien Laurens.

The French journalist said that Manchester United have an agreement with Ajax for De Ligt, while favourites Juventus are yet to achieve the same target.

The player favours a move to Juventus ahead of both Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) who have both agreed on a deal with Ajax Amsterdam.

Manchester United and PSG have met the €75m asking price from Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam, while Juventus are yet to agree on a deal with the Dutch giants after offering €55m in addition to €10m in add-ons.

According to Julien Laurens, Ajax Amsterdam want to sort out the Matthijs De Ligt transfer saga as soon as possible and that they could force the player to choose either Manchester United or PSG.

Matthijs De Ligt won two major trophies with Ajax Amsterdam in addition to reaching the last four of the Champions League with the Dutch Eredivisie giants.
