North London giants Arsenal have submitted an improved offer for highly rated Saint Etienne defender William Saliba.

The young French centre back has emerged as a top transfer target for Arsenal on the defensive front and the Gunners had earlier submitted a bid for the player.

Arsenal made an opening €25m bid for the young French defender but the Gunners were still some way off the €30m asking price from Saint Etienne.

Trusted French journalist Manu Longon while confirming the second bid revealed that it’s still not up to the asking price from Saint Etienne.

Clubs interested in William Saliba must agree to loan him to Saint Etienne for another year as part of the conditions from the French Ligue 1 club.

William Saliba enjoyed a breakthrough season at Saint Etienne in the last campaign as he made 16 appearances for his French club.

The 18-year-old was outstanding for Saint Etienne who finished the last French Ligue 1 season in fifth place.

Apart from Saint Etienne, Arsenal have also been linked with other central defenders like Joachim Andersen of Sampdoria and Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to strengthen his team defensively ahead of the new season which starts for the Gunners on August 11.
