Merseyside giants Liverpool have been warned against the signing of Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho by one of the club’s legends.

Former Liverpool player John Aldridge while writing in his Sunday World column urged the club to stay away from their former player Coutinho this summer.

According to him, Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha represents a better transfer option for the Reds rather than a move for Philippe Coutinho.

Recent reports had claimed that Liverpool are open to the idea of re-signing Coutinho this summer after leaving the club 18 months ago in controversial circumstances.

Philippe Coutinho practically forced his exit from Liverpool in January 2018 in a deal reported to be around £142m including add-ons.

The 27-year-old has struggled to live up to his hefty price tag at Barcelona till date.

He has already told senior Barcelona officials that his future lies elsewhere with Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United also interested in him.

For Wilfried Zaha, Arsenal want to sign the Ivorian international player but lack of adequate funds means that the transfer won’t see the light of day.

Crystal Palace have slapped an asking price of £80m on Zaha while the Gunners have a transfer budget of just £45m.
