2006 Champions League finalists Arsenal have been handed a big transfer blow in their chase for Lorient forward Alexis Claude-Maurice (ACM) after the player preferred a move to Germany.
The young French player revealed that he wants to join German top flight side Borussia Moenchengladbach ahead of other interested clubs like North London giants Arsenal.
He made this known in an interview monitored by popular French news outlet L’Equipe.
Recent reports had claimed that the Gunners agreed on a deal with French Ligue 2 club Lorient for the 21-year-old at the third time of asking and that Arsenal are in negotiations for him.

On his preference for Borussia Moenchengladbach, Alexis Claude-Maurice said that the German club focuses more on the development of young players in addition to the fact that they have a good structure.
He added that the Borussia Moenchengladbach project is one that suits him.
Alexis Claude-Maurice is presently rated at around £18m by his club.
He scored 14 goals and also provided four assists for Lorient who missed out on Ligue 1 promotion in the last campaign.
The young French forward would have been the direct replacement for Danny Welbeck at Arsenal after the England international player was released earlier this summer.
