Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly been rebuffed in their quest to sign West Ham United defender Issa Diop during this summer’s transfer window.

This is according to the report from popular English news outlet Metro which claimed that the Hammers have rejected a £40m bid for Issa Diop.

It was also revealed that Manchester United added an unnamed player to sweeten the deal only for them to meet a brickwall in West Ham United.

Young French defender Diop has only spent one season in English football but that has proven to be more than enough to convince Manchester United to sign him.

The centre back signed for West Ham United last summer after the East Londoners paid French Ligue 1 club, Toulouse, a whopping sum of £22m for his transfer.

Issa Diop formed a potent centre back partnership with Paraguayan international Fabian Balbuena before the latter suffered an injury in the middle of the Premier League season.

The ex-Toulouse defender represents a cheaper centre back option for Manchester United against the likes of Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Leicester City defender Maguire is rated at £80m by his club, while Napoli star Koulibaly would set Manchester United back financially by over £100m.

Manchester United want to sign a quality centre back this summer and Issa Diop could be their man with the French player keen to swap West Ham United for the Theatre of Dreams.
