Premier League giants Manchester United have a new threat to deal with in their quest to sign Ajax Amsterdam skipper Matthijs De Ligt.

This is according to widespread reports coming out of the media in Spain.

Manchester United and other clubs like Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) have been in the hunt for the aforementioned De Ligt but they have to contend with a new competition in reigning European champions Real Madrid.

According to the publication from Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Matthijs De Ligt is attracting the interest of Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants might need a new centre back this summer with club skipper Sergio Ramos attracting interest from China.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed earlier this month that they have received an offer for Sergio Ramos who’s keen to end his 14-year association with the former La Liga champions.

Sergio Ramos became a Real Madrid player in 2005 following his move from fellow Spanish La Liga outfit Sevilla.

He has won four Champions League titles at Real Madrid.

Ajax Amsterdam captain Matthijs De Ligt is a potential replacement for him after leading his Dutch Eredivisie club to a domestic double for the first time in over a decade.
