Former Manchester United defender Laurent Blanc is in the running for the vacant managerial position at Italian Serie A giants AS Roma according to widespread reports emanating from the French media.

Roma is looking for a new permanent manager following the resignation of Eusebio Di Francesco earlier this year in the aftermath of their Champions League elimination at the hands of FC Porto in the round of 16.

French newspaper L’Equipe revealed that Laurent Blanc is in the frame for the AS Roma job.

Other managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte have also been linked with the position.

Laurent Blanc has not been on the sidelines since he was sacked by French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the summer of 2016.

The 53-year-old had led PSG to three successive league titles before his exit at PSG.

Ex-Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has been in charge of his boyhood club on a temporary basis until the end of the season since Di Francesco left the Italian capital outfit.

Italian tactician Ranieri has managed AS Roma for ten games with two left to play in the Italian top flight.

Roma are in a big battle with Atalanta, Inter Milan, Torino and AC Milan for two Champions League spots for next season.
