Europa League finalists Arsenal are reportedly closing in on their first signing of the recently opened summer transfer window in the Premier League.

The Premier League transfer window opened officially on Thursday and the Gunners are on the verge of making their first transfer according to the Daily Mirror.

Arsenal have tabled a £10.5m bid for Argentine defender Walter Kannemann who’s highly rated in South America.

Italian Serie A club Sampdoria are also interested in the player who plays his club football for Gremio in the Brazilian top flight.

The Gunners are operating on a right budget this summer and they are on the search for quality players with moderate transfer fees.

Walter Kannemann fits into the Gunners’ transfer model and they have concluded plans to sign him.

The 28-year-old is a versatile defender that can play either as a left-back or as a centre back.

Arsenal have made the signing of a new centre back their top priority this summer after a poor defensive season which saw Arsenal emerge as one of the teams with the worst defensive record in the top half of the Premier League table at the end of the season.

The Gunners conceded a whopping 52 goals in just 38 league goals.
